When you register a birth you can now elect to notify your Family Information Service too. If you choose to do this you will receive a pack from us with details of how we can help you and a small selection of leaflets. You'll also have the opportunity to receive future contact from us if you wish.

Flying Start is the Welsh Government targeted Early Years programme for families with children under 4 years of age in some of the most deprived areas of Wales and is based on postcodes.

Local Safeguarding Children Boards (LSCB's) have a legal duty to make sure that keeping children safe is a priority for everyone. Powys LSCB is responsible for co-ordinating local arrangements to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and includes representatives of all statutory and voluntary agencies in Powys who are working with children and their families.

Your Health Visitor is a qualified nurse or midwife with special training in Child Health Promotion and Health Education, who is based either in surgeries or clinics within the community, working closely with other professionals.
Health Visitors throughout Powys offer a service to every family with a pre-school child.

Children and families are very welcome in Powys libraries. Babies can join the library as soon as they are born – it is never too soon to start looking at books and sharing stories and rhymes with young children.
It is free to join the library – just bring along proof of your address. Children can borrow up to 10 books and stories on CD, while adults can borrow up to 20 books, music or audio CDs and DVDs (small charges apply for CDs and DVDs). You can keep your books for a month.
There are computers that you and your children can use too!
Babies can take part in the Bookstart Book Crawl, while older children can get involved in the summer reading game, plus lots of other activities.
