
"Play in Powys" is a partnership of services, groups and organisations working together to provide and increase play opportunities across the county.
The three main aims of the partnership are:
All children and young people need to play and the impulse to play is biological, psychological and a social necessity. It's fundamental to the healthy development of individuals and communities. Every child has the right to play under Article 31 of the UN convention on the Rights of the Child.
Therefore, Powys Children and Young People’s Partnership has a vision that; "Every child and young person in Powys will have access to a range of quality play opportunities within a variety of environments and settings, both formal and informal".
Furthermore "every service provider, carer and parent of children and young people in Powys are informed and considerate of their play needs."
The Welsh Assembly Government play policy definition of play is: "play encompasses children’s behaviour which is freely chosen, personally directed and intrinsically motivated. It is performed for no external goal or reward, and is a fundamental and integral part of healthy development - not only for individual children but also for the society in which they live".
